Hotkeys (Shortcut keys)

Hot keys in the program can be divided into local and global. Local works only when the main window is shown; global works in any situation, e.g. while working with another program.


Global shortcuts

Ctrl + F11 + F11 Display the main window
Ctrl + C + C Translate the contents of a selected word, or of the clipboard, if no word is selected
Ctrl + Ins + Ins Same as Ctrl+C+C, but in older versions)

Note: Global keys may not be available in a fresh GNU / Linux distributions because of an error in X.Org server.


Local shortcuts

Shortcut Area Result
Alt + G Both main and popup windows Pick a dictionary group from the drop-down menu
Alt + S Both main and popup windows Pronounce current word
Alt + Left/Right Both main and popup windows Display previous/next entry in history
Alt + M Popup List entries that match current selection
ESC Popup Close the popup window
ESC or Ctrl + L Main Window Focus on the Look-Up text-box
F2 Main Window Save current article as html
Ctrl + P Main Window Print current article
Ctrl + F4 Main Window Close the main window to system tray
Ctrl + Q Main Window Quit and stop the application


Note:

  • Once in the main window, just start typing, and the focus will move to the Look-Up box.
  • To use shortcuts in the popup window, make sure that it is active, click on it. Otherwise they will be handled by an external application.
  • Alt + Left/Right produces the same effect as yellow arrows at main toolbar, not the History menu.
