Anyone has a stardict-image supported version of Goldendict

Postby hanyl05 » Thu Dec 08, 2011 7:49 am

Anyone has a stardict-image supported version of Goldendict for Windows OS?

I wonder whether anyone has a version that can support stardict images file on windows platform?

The following link provides some useful information, but unfortunately I don’t know how to compile files.

No, but I could build one and send you the EXE file. In fact, I'm looking for free startdict dictionaries with images to use as sample files to test this feature. Do you happen to know where I can get them?

hanyl05, a quick test showed that we have a couple of issues to resolve before having image support for startdict format.

The pictures are included in the res folder, so if the program can automatically support the zipped res folder(res.zip),
it would be very great.

@chulai: could you send me the .exe of goldendict with support for images? Thanks in advance.

The dictionary with images whose link was provided above by someone is corrupt. I downloaded it twice and uncompressed it with 2 different programs (7-zip on Windows and the default uncompress program in puppy linux) and they reported that the file was corrupt. does anyone have another dictionary in stardict format that contains images? some explanation of what tags to use in .dict files to display images would be much appreciated, too. thanks.

Maybe my previous post right above this one was too specific. I am trying to create a dictionary which displays only an image when a word is inputed. Any suggestions?

I have makedict, so I can create a dictionary in xdxf format and then convert it to stardict format. But I'm not sure that makedict is smart enough to handle tags for images.

Alternatively, is there a stardict file editor that can create stardict files which will support images?

Thanks again.

After a lot of googling, I finally found a solution to how to create a Goldendict dictionary with images. The solution is to create the dictionary as a .dsl file and put the images in the same folder as the .dsl file. If that folder is one that Goldendict is set to search for dictionaries in, Goldendict will find it just as it finds Stardict format dictionaries. Here is a simple example of the .dsl file:
Code: Select all
#NAME PICTURE_DICTIONARY
#INDEX_LANGUAGE "English"
#CONTENTS_LANGUAGE "English"

house
     [s]HouseImage.jpg[/s]
car
     [s]CarImage.jpg[/s]

I also found that the images cannot be compressed into a .zip, .7z, or .dz file. If they are, Goldendict will not find them.

Perhaps one can also add sounds and videos to a Goldendict dictionary using the same method and the same [s] tags. I have not tried that.
