Mobipocket .mobi dictionaries

Postby roro » Mon Oct 24, 2011 12:17 pm

First of all, congratulations on a fine programme! I've been using the indispensable Goldendict for over a year now and I don't know how I'd manage without it. I don't have an Android phone yet, but when I do, I'll certainly be searching out that version.

Currently, on my phone (with Mobipocket Reader) and Kindle, I use de-DRMed .mobi file dictionaries. I have quite a few that I purchased and de-DRMed for use on both devices. I would love to be able to use these on Goldendict too. I understand you have a lot of requests, but this one seems logical as there has already been a lot of work done to render the .mobi format more transparent.

For example:

Mobi de-DRM: http://stream-recorder.com/forum/mobide ... t5429.html

Mobiperl tools (including html2mobi, opf2mobi, lit2mobi, mobi2html, mobi2mobi): https://dev.mobileread.com/trac/mobiperl

There are a lot of people using purchased versions of these dictionaries that have removed the DRM to use them on multiple devices. I would like to be able to use mine on my linux laptop with Goldendict, and eventually on my phone with Goldendict, rather than simply the Kindle.

Anyway, it's only a suggestion. Otherwise, thanks a lot for this programme. It's wonderful, and much appreciated.

Best,

Roro

I think that it would be wonderful to have MOBI support in GolderDict.

The biggest Esperanto-Russian and Russian-Esperanto dictionary of Mr. Kondratyev exists offline only in .mobi format. You can see it here: http://eoru.ru/elsxuti/
It would be nice if GoldenDict supports this format too.

I asked ir to the libmobi developer, maybe he can be interested on it.

https://github.com/bfabiszewski/libmobi/issues/1

I also asked about SlovoEd and MSDict. They also share PalmOS roots and are modified PalmDOCs too, maybe not so different.

I also found this How to make dictionaries and indexes
