Last letter missing on bgl dictionary

Postby nit_ar » Sat Apr 25, 2009 4:00 pm

Hello GoldenDict support

I have installed GoldenDict v.0.8.0 and have added Babylon_English_Hebrew.bgl (extracted from http://www.babylon.com/category/11/Hebrew.html) as a source.
The translation works fine except that for many English terms, last letter of the Hebrew translation is missing.

I have used Unpack_BGL_v1.3 (rapidshare.de/files/44176320/Unpack_BGL_1.3.7z.html) to convert the BGL into text file and it produce the text file with the full Hebrew translation. (http://rapidshare.de/files/42101483/Unp ... .2.7z.html includes also the source code).

BTW, I am facing a similar problem with StarDict with a "converted" babylon_english_hebrew.bgl which was converted by dictconv.

Please try to solve this problem.

Thanks

Could you please give some example of an article with the missing letter? Just copy-paste the whole article body from the program, and then tell which letter it is missing at its end. That would probably suffice. If you could provide several examples, that would be good, too.

Please notice that since Hebrew is written from right to left, the missing last letter is on the most left side
It would be better that for such LTR language, each translation would be displayed as an LTR paragraph (there is an unicode LTR control character)

Some examples:
1.
Translation of 'can' gives:
*****************************

From Babylon English-Hebrew
can

kæn;kən
קופסא, פחית; בית-סוה
can

kæn;kən
יכול; מסוגל; רשא
can

kæn;kən
לשמ

But the complete words of the translation should be:
***********************************************
From Babylon English-Hebrew
can

kæn;kən
קופסא, פחית; בית-סוהר
can

kæn;kən
יכול; מסוגל; רשאי
can

kæn;kən
לשמר

2.
Translation of 'school' gives:

From Babylon English-Hebrew
school

skuːl
בית-ספר; בית-מדרש; מכללה; אסכולה, שיטה; פקולטה; להקת דגי
school

skuːl
ללמד; לחנך, להקנות השכלה; לאמן, להדריך; ליצור נחיל (דגים)
school

skuːl
של בית-ספר, של חינו

But the complete words should be (in this example, second translation is OK):
************************************
From Babylon English-Hebrew
school

skuːl
בית-ספר; בית-מדרש; מכללה; אסכולה, שיטה; פקולטה; להקת דגים
school

skuːl
ללמד; לחנך, להקנות השכלה; לאמן, להדריך; ליצור נחיל (דגים)
school

skuːl
של בית-ספר, של חינוך

Thanks, The problem has been solved in version 0.9.

Is it possible that the translations will show whether the translated word is verb, noun, adj. etc. ?

Yes. Create a text file C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\GoldenDict\article-style.css, and put there

Code: Select all
.bglpos { color: blue; display: block; }

A lot of dictionaries has this information incorrect - I don't know how Babylon handles those cases, so in GD I've just made it hidden by default.
