adding BGL files

Hi All

I downloaded some BGL files and wanted to add them to Golden Dictionary. The website says that type of dictionary is compatible, but GoldenDict does not recongise the files. They are in the same folder as other dictionaries (mostly star dictonaries and a couple of others) that GoldenDict does read.

Can anyone tell me what to do?

Hi,
Please share exact name of BGL files. What version of GoldenDict you are using? Which OS?
Also, BDC files are not supported.

v 1.0.1

Original copy of Windows Vista

I think it works just fine with GoldenDict v1.0.1-269-ga9b25e8-dirty.

Download a more recent version of GoldenDict for Windows here: https://github.com/goldendict/goldendic ... or-Windows

Check that the babylon files have a BGL extension and not BDC (not supported). Also check file size. This is 1.69 MB.

Thanks for the reply.

I installed the newer version, but the files are still not recognised.

the attached pic shows they are bgl.

Any other ideas?

Check in Windows Explorer:
* File size.
* File permissions. File must have read permission.

In GoldenDict try:
File > Rescan Files.

If all that don't work:
* Go to Help > Configuration folder.
* Close GoldenDict.
* Backup all your settings to another folder.
* Open GoldenDict and setup again your dictionaries.

Have you checked permissions in each file? I would assume the folder permission is correct because GoldenDict can access and index some files there (Stardict dictionaries) but folder permissions might not be propagating into subfolders and files. I have seen that issue other times. Please check.
Other than that, I'm not sure which can be the problem but I'm confident the dictionary works just fine as I showed above.
