Advanced format using Stardict format

Postby chejnik » Tue Oct 25, 2011 12:35 pm

Hello, I would like to ask you for help. I would like to format the dictionary entry in Stardict format. I am using Stardict-editor to convert dict file to Stardict format and the documentation of Stardict format http://code.google.com/p/babiloo/wiki/StarDict_format.

Can you show me how to format this example from Icelandic-Czech students dictionary (http://hvalur.org/search.php?action=find&keyword=%C3%BAlfur&num_keyword=0&detail_from_result=TRUE. Than involves using tags, tables, images and sounds and IPA. I would like to achieve the same result in Stardict.
Thank you

Do you really have to use the StarDict format?
I have not been able to find precise documentation about it.

May I suggest that you try the DSL format?
See this thread viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1273
particularly the message by C2BlEv

The main advantage of this format is that you do not have to compile dictionaries. You just write the dictionary in plain text file and you can see the result almost immediately in GoldenDict.

Thank you for answer. I have managed to format the dictionary article in DSL format and I am satisfied with the result apart from that that I dont know if it is possible to include tables (declension tables) or if I can include word form search (dont list word form but show the headword that has that word form). As far as I know, you cannot create tables in dsl format (but I am not a specialist).
I am not sure that I understand what you mean by "word form search".
If you mean that you want to search for a word under different forms, you can have several headwords on different lines for example:

Code: Select all
prendre
prends
prend
prenons
prenez
    to take

Only the first headword will appear as a headword in GoldenDict. In this example, I have listed different forms of the French verb "prendre" (to take)

Thank you for your answer, I will have a look at it. This is what I have meant by word form search. I ll post the result here later.

I have tried to set the word form directly under the headword.
Code: Select all
aðalatriði
aðalatriðis
 \[aːðal̥ad̥rɪðɪ\] [p]n[/p] [p] (-s, -)[/p] [s]ds_adalatridi_0_1.mp3[/s]
 [m1][trn]hlavní věc, to nejdůležitější[/trn] [/m]

where aðalatriðis is genitive form of aðalatriði
But I dont want the genitive form to appear in the list of headwords, because it is difficult for user to read from the list and because it is not necessary at all.
Do you have any idea how to use word forms in search while keeping them hidden?
An idea would be if there were in use two dictionaries - one bilingual and one with word forms. The word forms dictionary would automatically redirect to headword.

StarDict format allows to have those sorts of synonyms you desire. They go to the .syn file. However, StarDict format is binary, so you need to have some sort of tool to create those files.
