GD index files in C path, shift to other path

Postby newcomer » Wed Aug 17, 2011 2:56 am

GD generated INDEX folder in C path,C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\GoldenDict
My GD setup path:E:\GoldenDict

When re-install windows or recover windows by symentec Ghost, the index folder get lost. Users must re-scan the dictionary for a dreary long time before use.

Is there any method to let GD producing "index folder" on its setup folder?

In next GD version,I advise GD developer to add new option under GD "preference menu".Users can decide where to place the INDEX folder.

Please consider this advice, were it viable.

Alternatively, you could just create a portable sub-directory in your GD installation folder, and GD will work in portable mode, storing its indexes and settings in that directory, so there will be no need to store anything on system disk.

Portal version has some problems.
For example, it doesn't support "Sounds" or we can not add address for dictionaries and we should put them in the contents folder.

But that's kind of logical. That makes GoldenDict really portable, since you have everything in one place: GoldenDict, its settings, indexes *and* dictionaries.
