Neither link seems to work anymore.

At any rate, I will try to compile an edition myself soon.

I have been working on an ePub/Kindle dictionary based on
Wiktionary and CIDE (Webster's 1913 Unabridged).

It's available at http://personal.inet.fi/koti/korhoj/

I'll try to convert it into StarDict format and upload
to my webpage. I'll let you know.

I have written a Java parser for the XML Wiktionary entries
although it's incomplete. It's better already though than the
short definitions which are produced by a certain Perl script.

For the latest Kindle edition I included also terms for
Anglo-Saxon, French, German, Middle-English and Old English
since they are handy while reading certain English books.
Kindle indexing takes rather long now. I think for
StarDict format I'll produce independent dictionaries
for each language.

Wiktionary is a bit weird when it comes to inflections.
It seems some French terms at least in the
English Wiktionary have each inflection as its
own entry. I think the Finnish terms use some
kind of a template. After all, Finnish nouns
have 15 declinations... ePub dictionaries support
inflection entries so that "words" brings up
"word". Although I only use them for the
CIDE dictionary now since Wiktionary has
the plurals as their own entries (which
I personally much dislike).

Cheers,
Joel

I did a test build for the English Wiktionary, entries from 2012-06-15. It's available at

https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=fb7fc293 ... 5A72%21110

I have not tried to create StarDict files before but I used gzip to create wikt-en.dz which contains wikt-en.dict. I uploaded the idx and ifo files separately. I suppose these are usually put into a tar archive and that compressed with bzip2. Anyhow, I tried copying the dict, idx and ifo file to ColorDict Android and it worked ok. Should work with GoldenDict too.

This is still just a crude conversion containing the one-line definitions. It should contain most definitions but stardict-editor.exe reported problems with some entries. At least math formulas seemed to create problems. Some problems are probably caused by XML entities not been mapped
properly to StarDict format.

Being the first build I didn't include yet examples although my ePub/Kindle version of Wiktionary includes them. Also etymologies etc. are missing. But I'll probably add them at some later date.

I consulted http://jalasthana.de/?p=828 to create the entries. I shall upload later my new Java project to my homepage.

Cheers,
Joel

Thanks Joel!

Too make it working in Goldendict (at least the Android version) I have had to recompress it with dictzip. Also, the dictionary file should be named 'wikt-en.dict.dz' instead of 'wikt-en.dz'.

If anyone is interested I have uploaded it here: http://orga.cat/wiktionary20120615.7z

Cheers,
Pere

Now that GoldenDict supports AAR dictionary format, you could download wikipedia and wiktionary in that format and use it in GoldenDict:
