Links to browser in search results

Postby frere » Wed Jan 26, 2011 9:26 am

This would fit in a "Desired features" section...
I would love to have active links to the browser in the search results, for example for Wikipedia results. One could then click on the Wikipedia links in order to dig further directly in the preferred browser. Wikipedia's left column also has a list of links to the same article in other languages, which in itself is like a super glossary... This list of terms, which come under "interwiki" tags in the Wikipedia source code, could actually be used within Godendict to jump between different language versions of the same Wikipedia article!
It would also be useful to link the searched terms to Web pages such as Google Images. If for instance you search "starling", clicking on the Google Images link would send you directly to the browser in order to check out what this bird looks like. This type of external link could also be user defined.
Thanks again to Konstantin for this excellent piece of software, I enjoy it more every day!

+1 for this feature.

You can already do this. Just define a web dictionary and points it to google image search and you will get the results inside GD. As far as I know, GD uses Webkit internally so it's a web browser too.

Hi Chulai!
Thanks a lot for your comments. I tried to define Google Images as a Web dictionary, but the http: code is somewhat complicated and I can't get it to work: the Google Images page comes up, but the pictures don't show (see snapshot below)

ok, the problem is that Google Image is using the data URI scheme to link to the images instead of the more common http URI scheme. So for example instead of "http://www.google.com/myimage.gif" is using something like "data:image/gif;base64,/9j/4AAQSkZJRgABAQAAAQABAAD/2wB".

Apparently GD (or webkit, which is used internally by GD to render the webpages) doesn't support this or it needs to enable it somehow. I don't believe that webkit is the problem, though. GD must be changing the addresses that finds in a webpage.

Just a follow-up. The issue was that the Ads block feature (under Preferences > Network > Disallow loading content...) was also blocking data URIs used on Google Images. This was fixed so should be available on next release of GD.
