Help us translate GoldenDict 1.5 to your language!

Greetings everyone,

As some of you might know already GoldenDict version 1.5 is around the corner. We're currently testing and fixing outstanding issues only. While we work on these, we need your help to get the program fully-translated to as many languages as possible. If you're a GoldenDict fan and want to see the program translated to your language this is the right time.

The following table list all contributed languages to date, with info about who was the last known maintainer and if someone is currently working on a translation.

You can find all translation files here: https://github.com/goldendict/goldendic ... dev/locale

To start translating the program to your language follow the link, click on the translation file you want and then press "Raw" button to download the file to your computer.
Please reply to this topic if you will work on some translation so we can update above table to track who is working on what and therefore we avoid duplicate efforts.

Some considerations:
* Do the translation with Qt Linguist. To download a copy go here: http://qt-apps.org/content/show.php/Qt+ ... tent=89360

* A comprehensive manual can be found at http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-4.8/lingui ... ators.html

* To "release" your *.ts file go to File -> Release menu from within the Linguist program; it will create the appropriate *.qm file which you could copy to GoldenDict's locale directory and test it.

* Download the latest Release Candidate version, GoldenDict 1.5.0-RC-156-g8a20ec7, to test your translation from https://github.com/goldendict/goldendic ... or-Windows

* When translation is finished, either post the updated *.ts file to the forum or do a pull request as explained in the following forum topic: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2063#p8821

* If you need any help with the procedure to get the translation done, you can post a question in the forum.

Thanks and regards,
Chulai

Hi mmmmmm, I don't understand. Was my post not clear? We're looking for collaboration to translate GoldenDict's User Interface to as many languages as possible.

ah, ok. There are some options to create automatically dictionary groups by:
1) source language,
2) target language,
3) source -> target -> source language (which is a combination of #1 and #2 above.

dropdown menu to group dictionaries according to source-target languages.png
dropdown menu to group dictionaries according to source-target languages.png (266.27 KiB) Viewed 103148 times

So #3: "Make two-side translate group..." means for example to create a group that will include all dictionaries to translate from Arabic to English and from English to Arabic, that is "Make two-side translate group 'ar - en - ar'".
I translated #3 literally to Spanish as follow: "Create a group to translate 'ar - en - ar'".

Hope this helps

Hello, just came across this Wikipedia article about most spoken languages in the world: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_la ... f_speakers
It would be a great addition to have GoldenDict translated to some of the top languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Malaysian/Indonesian, Urdu and Punjabi. Also Hindi and Urdu are mutually intelligible so that's a plus.
If anyone is interested in translating GD to any of those languages drop us a line here in the forum.

Regards,
Chulai

Hi, chulai, I'm stuck with translation of "BelarusianTranslit":

There are three sentences:
1. Belarusian transliteration from latin to cyrillic (classic orthography)
2. Belarusian transliteration from latin to cyrillic (school orthography)
3. Belarusian transliteration (smoothes out the difference between classic and school orthography in cyrillic)

The first one is simple to translate, I have no problem with it.
But the second one: "school orthography", what does the "school" really mean?
And the third one: what did the "smoothes out" do?

As far as I can tell, there are two conflicting/different orthographies in Belarusian language: the classic one and the official one (named here as school orthography, probably because it is being taught in schools and used in official documents). The third one is a blend of the two, something in between, a compromise.

Before 1933 there was a classic orthography. Then there was a reform in year 1933 which gave birth to the current official/school orthography, many disagree with it and insist using the classic one.

Thanks for you clarification, the translation is now completed.
