Yes, it's last rpm, but at all not the latest version. Nevertheless, it's much newer than the portable version...

I could try to make rpm package as checkinstall has got this option, but I am not sure about dependecies. A lot of them need and maybe they are different as in Ubuntu or Debian distros. It will worth to make and try

Dependences may be different even in the different versions of the same distributor. If there it's possible to make package (standard, i.e. rpm) without extra dependences, it would make sense. But I'm not sure. There are portable versions, that may be running in all distros. For example, in this case it is possible to do distributions of the GoldenDict with sets of the dictionaries which aren't requiring rescanning after definitely installation of such distribution without superuser privileges! But portable versions for some reason long ago aren't created...

Unfortunately, the project (i.e. open part of it) is dead...

e_dub_kendo wrote:I installed on Ubuntu 12.04 but the instructions given at http://software.opensuse.org/download.html?My Website project=home%3ATvangeste&package=goldendict didn't work for me. Specifically, the instruction:

Code: Select all
$ echo 'deb http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:Tvangeste/xUbuntu_13.04/ /' >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/goldendict.list

Even with sudo, I kept getting:

Code: Select all
bash: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/goldendict.list: Permission denied

I finally got it working by doing:

Code: Select all
$ sudo touch /etc/apt/sources.list.d/goldendict.list

to create the file, then opening that in my text editor via:

Code: Select all
$ gksudo subl /etc/apt/sources.list.d/goldendict.list

and manually adding:

Code: Select all
deb http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:Tvangeste/xUbuntu_13.04/ /

Then following the instructions to add the key before going back to update and install. This is probably outside of your control to address, but just wanted to point it out in case others ran into the issue. Thanks a lot for putting the package together, this makes using GD on ubuntu even nicer.

I have the same problem!
